LOCAL MINISTRIES

St. Andrew’s Giving Garden

This is for everyone -- experienced gardeners with garden plots, new gardeners who want help starting a container garden at home, and for those who don't garden but want to find out how to support this ministry in other ways. The Giving Garden at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church supports  Story County Plant A Row For The Hungry. Here are five Simple Steps for getting involved:

  1. Grow a little extra produce at home (in your garden or in a container)

  2. Harvest (brush soil off, but you do not need to wash)

  3. Bring produce you wish to donate to church on Sundays, July 4-September 12

  4. Place produce in donation crates at church

  5. Immediately following church, produce will be transported by SALC volunteers to Reiman Gardens, the Plant a Row for the Hungry collection site.  Reiman Gardens/Plant A Row volunteers will refrigerate and distribute the produce to community organizations.

Here is the produce transport schedule so far.  We still have a few openings for people to help transport produce from the church to Reiman Gardens in July, August and September. You can sign up to transport produce here.

Saving Suds

Saving Suds is a local ministry to provide quarters and laundry soap at Squeaky Clean from 4-6 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of the month. St. Andrew’s volunteers the third Thursday of the month and Bethesda volunteers the first Thursday. Volunteers are needed to greet guests and hand out quarters. It is a great night of hospitality, fellowship and service. You can find slots where volunteers are needed and sign up to help here

Donations can be made by check or online.  Please send your check to the church written to "St. Andrew's Lutheran Church" and put "Saving Suds " in the memo line.  Online donations can be made here.

St. Andrew's Blessings Box

The St. Andrew's Blessing Box is available for anyone in need. The current focus is collecting items for personal care needs. Items such as, shampoo, deodorant, personal/menstrual hygiene, toothpaste, etc. are much appreciated and needed.  Feel free to place items in the box, or take an item.

Backpack Buddies
St. Andrew's partners with Edwards School (820 Miller Ave., Ames, IA) to provide over the weekend food for children experiencing food insecurity. This program has been on hold during the pandemic. At this time, St. Andrew's is receiving donations of snacks to supplement classroom needs.
