We Believe in the Importance of Serving Our Neighbors.
St. Andrew's is an LGBT friendly church near you that is deeply committed to working for peace and justice in the world. We serve our local community in a number of ways through a wide variety of ministries.
If you would like to learn more about any of these ministries or are interested in getting involved, please contact the church office.
St. Andrew’s Giving Garden
This is for everyone - experienced gardeners, new gardeners who want help starting a container garden, and for those who don't garden but want to support this ministry in other ways. The Giving Garden at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church supports Story County Plant A Row For The Hungry. Here are five steps for getting involved:
Grow a little extra produce at home.
Harvest (brush soil off, but you do not need to wash).
Bring produce you wish to donate to church on Sundays, July 4-September 12.
Place produce in donation crates at church.
Following church, produce will be transported by SALC volunteers to Reiman Gardens, the Plant a Row for the Hungry collection site. Plant A Row volunteers will refrigerate and distribute the produce to community organizations.
Many families cannot afford the hefty price tag of doing laundry at a laundromat. For those who do not have washing machines at home, having clean clothes for their kids and themselves to wear can be a real challenge. Lack of clean clothes can even hinder kids from going to school and parents from keeping jobs.
Saving Suds is a local ministry started at St. Andrew's to provide quarters and laundry soap at Squeaky Clean from 4-6 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of the month. St. Andrew’s volunteers the third Thursday of the month and Bethesda volunteers the first Thursday. Volunteers are needed to greet guests and hand out quarters. It is a great night of hospitality, fellowship and service. You can find slots where volunteers are needed and sign up below.
Donations can be made by check or online. Please send your check to the church written to "St. Andrew's Lutheran Church" and put "Saving Suds " in the memo line. Online donations can be made here.
St. Andrew's Blessings Box
The St. Andrew's Blessing Box is available for anyone in need. The current focus is collecting items for personal care needs. Items such as, shampoo, deodorant, personal/menstrual hygiene, toothpaste, etc. are much appreciated and needed. Feel free to place items in the box, or take an item.
